Bromley Wheelchair Rugby Club was created from an awareness that there are no opportunities for those with physical impairments to play Wheelchair Rugby in South/South-East London and the North-West Kent area. The next closest club to Bromley is over an hour’s drive, which for many people with a physical impairment is not accessible. Disabled people are twice as likely to not participate in physical activity and without adequate opportunities to play this figure is lowered even further.
Therefore, the club was formed in June 2024 and has delivered several wheelchair rugby sessions to understand the project’s scope and demand. The club has attracted new players since its inception and more are joining each week. In addition to attracting new players, the club also has interest from players attending other Great Britain Wheelchair Rugby (GBWR) clubs as either Bromley Wheelchair Rugby Club geographically aligns with them better or they are looking for more opportunities to play the sport they love.
